In a commendable step towards promoting healthier lifestyle choices among students, the Health and Hygiene Club of Sacred Heart Convent School, Sector 39, Ludhiana, organized a special theme-based assembly on 4th July 2025 (Friday) in alignment with the recent CISCE directive on the establishment of “Sugar Boards”.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from Grade 5 students, who took centre stage in raising awareness about the ill effects of excessive sugar consumption. The assembly featured a creatively curated “Carnival Segment”, where students held impactful placards with messages like:
- “Say No to Excess Sugar”
- “Too Much Sugar, Too Much Trouble”
- “Healthy Snacks, Happy Life!”
A detailed awareness session followed, educating children on:
• Hidden sugars in common food products
• Safe daily sugar intake levels
• Health risks such as obesity, dental issues, and diabetes
• Healthy food swaps – choosing fruits and homemade snacks over sugary treats
To reinforce the learning, dedicated Sugar Boards were inaugurated in the Pre-Primary, Primary, and Higher Sections of the school. These interactive displays now serve as daily visual reminders, offering helpful tips and factual insights to encourage sugar reduction in daily diets.
Further strengthening this initiative, on 10th July 2025, Dr. Ruma Singh, Chief Dietitian and Associate Professor at Christian Medical College, Ludhiana, conducted an interactive awareness session with Grade 9 students. Her expert talk focused on sugar intake reduction strategies, reading food labels, and the long-term impact of dietary habits on health. Students actively participated, engaging in practical discussions and queries about real-life food choices.
Rev. Fr. Sebastian Pallassery, Director, and Rev. Sr. Crispin Maria, Principal of SHCS, appreciated the sincere efforts of both teachers and students, applauding the club for translating vision into action.
“Good health is the foundation of great learning. Our school remains committed to nurturing both the minds and bodies of our children,” said Sr. Crispin Maria.
The program highlighted the Heartians' commitment to holistic education, blending creative expression with scientific awareness, while fostering lifelong values of health and well-being.
